Cells Can Be Living Calculators
MIT engineers have transformed bacterial cells into living calculators that can compute logarithms, divide and take square roots, using three or fewer genetic parts.
Inspired by how analog electronic circuits function, the researchers created synthetic computation circuits by combining existing genetic “parts,” or engineered genes, in novel ways.

Pi IS WRONG!!
Pi is not wrong. Maybe Tau seems a little less messy, for lack of a better word, but pi is not wrong. It still works. Nevertheless, tau is an interesting alternative. Tau day is coming up in about a month. Brace yourselves. This is a neat infographic despite saying pi is wrong.
Also, that form of Euler’s identity isn’t the most beautiful one. This one is:
Not only because of the surprise that comes with it, but also because each of the five most important numbers in maths appears exactly once (0, 1, π, e, i) and each of the three basic operations appears exactly once (addition, multiplication and exponentiation). With τ the + is replaced by a - and then it gets less beautiful.
…this is the sole reason in the Universe I prefer π to τ.
